Sad Day Today

It is a sad day today... the last day of Ramadan. With it, all those cheap and yummy buffet promotion would be gone also. Food lovers will have to wait another year...

But it ain't so bad, at least I can look forward to the kuehs when visiting my Malay friends and relatives.I especially love "Tapak Kuda" with all the chocolatey goodness. The "KeK Durian" is nice also with the powerful flavour and smell.

Let's get on with business, Since this is the last day of Ramadan, this post should be the last Ramadan Special posts. I'll cover Al-Ahmadia Restaurant and the Gerai Ramadan in the Stadium parking area.

Al-Ahmadia
Visited the branch in Serusop. Was going to have lunch in Ayamku, but past through it and saw the menu on buffet... seems nice and tried it later that evening. It is one of those $5 buffet and the food served are predominantly Indian, with food like Tandoori Chicken, Briyani, Papadom, Mee Mamak etc. The food quality is not that nice after all :-( What disappointed me is that they use normal rice for Briyani when they should be using the long-grain Basmati rice... I think it is understandable since the rice is pricey and they use saffron, which itself it the most expensive spice in the world, and they only charge us $5 when just having a Briyani at normal times would be $4.50 or so. Verdict: Nah, don't think about it.

Gerai Ramadan, Stadium
As in every Ramadan, there would be stalls set up in the Stadium parking area selling all those really yummy food. The thing I really like about this Gerai Ramadan is the wide variety of delicious cakes, the sweet "Air Tebu" or sugarcane juice, and I get the chance to sample different food on offer. What I noticed this year is that there are a lot more Indian stalls, of which I think is really great. Didn't really buy much this year though, so can't really tell you about what's hot and what's not.

But I'll cover my most pleasant discovery. It's Shish Kebab! It is compacted minced meat with lot's of spice and grilled over charcoal fire! Like I said, nothing can go wrong with BBQ. By the way, the drumstick on the right is Tandoori Chicken if I am not wrong. Not that red though, not sure since I'm more interested in Beef lol. The giant tub is Briyani. Maybe since today is the last day, I'll go buy all three! Verdict: It won't be a meaningful Ramadan if you don't visit any Gerai Ramadan. Must go!

That's all for today's food hunting update. It's very short but I foresee a longer blog next time. It's because I'll cover a great discovery!

(P.S. The great discovery is postponed until the China adventure series is through-added 14/11/07)

LOL, picky tongue andang picky tongue ah you. Neways, you be careful none of those stalls sue you for giving them ratings and exposing them in such manner. Don't forget Brunei has no freedom of speech thing XD

Hehe. In contrast, I believe our voices are better heard in Brunei compared to Malaysia. Anyway its okay lah. No criticism, no motivation to improve.
